Defining the target group.

The group of interest is households making somewhere between $150,000 and $240,000 per year. In Goleta, this is about 20% of households, or roughly 2,500 households.

It is important to recognize that the location of jobs and the location of housing are not strictly linked. Still, because Goleta and Santa Barbara are so closely connected as a regional housing and labor market, this gives a useful picture of the choices workers may face nearby, even when they do not live within Goleta itself.

Estimate combines ACS-reported households earning $150,000 to $199,999 with an estimated 750 households earning $200,000 to $240,000. The $200,000 to $240,000 slice is interpolated from the ACS $200,000-or-more category by assuming the upper-income distribution continues smoothly above $200,000.
